The FITMAN 3DScan Specific Enabler is a component that assures the possibility of storing and visualizing precise scanned images obtained from real objects. This system can be used in many fields. The Specific Enabler provides, in this sense, a fast way of obtaining very accurate surface representations, the possibility to store them (together with other relevant data) and to visualize them in a clear and intuitive way. Both modules (Storage and Visualization) are conceived to be used together, although they can also be used independently.
The 3DScan component has laser scanning technology. The sensor that executes this stage of the process is the Optiscan, which is an optical 3D non-contact scan.
The Specific Enabler has two open source components: storage and visualization. Regarding the storage component there are several options related with databases (documents database or relational ones). Due to the huge amount of data generated by the scanning system storage technology will be required. The different ID of the files and its location will be placed in MySQL. Nevertheless the database itself will be stored directly in a PC.
Concerning the visualization component of the Specific Enabler the method used to show the results will be colour mapping. Colour mapping is a method to represent control quality results, in which the part is shown with a map colours. The different colours represent the difference between the ideal model (the CAD model or master part) and the real measured part (cloud of points). The different colours also represent if the deviations are inside the tolerances specified for that particular part.
The main objectives of the 3DScan SE are:
- Store all the information generated by the system: clouds of points, metadata of the analysed part or of the process needed to produce this part, information related with the quality control of the part (tolerances, design, rejection/acceptance criterion) and results in different formats.
- Visualization of intermediate and final results. This allows visualizing 3D Point Clouds as captured by the scanner, as well as colour mappings with the comparison between the CAD Design or ideal model with the real produced part.
The main architectural components of the 3DScan SE are listed and briefly described below:
- Visualizer: This component of the SE allows the user to see the results of the quality control represented graphically. It aims to present a great quantity of information in an intuitive way so the user can decide quickly about the analysed part.
- Storage: Allows to store all the data acquired (raw data), as well as the new data generated by the system itself: clouds of points, processed data, analysis and results, and the graphical representation of these results). It also stores the metadata of the analysed part and the manufacturing process.
